Brewer Shines in loss Print E-mail
Joe Crawford hit a late second shot as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Minnesota TImberwolves 95-93 Wednesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center as part of the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA Sports.

Timberwolves small foward Corey Brewer found his stroke in the loss despite scoring a game high 19 points. Brewer jumped out to a great start to get his confidence going in the first quarter.

"I got off to a great start and was able to gain some early confidence," Brewer said.

The Lakers dominated the first half of action as Crawford scored eight points in the opening period. Everyone that played in the second quarter scored for the Lakers as the team built a  52-44 halftime lead.

Minnesota battled back in the third quarter to make a game of it. The inside presence of Kevin Love and the outside shooting of Bryce Taylor gave the Timberwolves a nice scoring punch in the quarter.

After trailing throughout the first half, the Timberwolves tied the game at 59-59 and grabbed a lead in the early stages of fourth quarter as Brewer scored on two straight plays for a 74-73 lead.

The late stages of the contest was exciting as the two teams traded punches. Pooh Jeter tied the game up on a three-point play to make the score 93-93. Crawford sent everyone home with a running floater in the lane to end the game.

Love finished the game with his second straight double-double 18 points and 17 rebounds.  Second year player Brewer finished the game going 7 of 10 from the field and 5 of 6 from the charity stripe.

"Kevin is a beast inside," Brewer said. "Not only can he me great passes, but he makes everyone on the court better."
