Bucks stop the Wolves Print E-mail
Darius Washington scored a game-high 19 points as the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 81-67 Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in 2008 NBA Summer League action.

The Timberwolves came out of the gate strong on defense. Kevin Love used his physical presence inside to dominate the glass early on. Love scored six points and grabbed 7 boards in the opening stanza.

Love and Bucks center Olumide Oyedji got together a few times in the first half as the duo went to the floor on a few loose balls.

Former  Southeastern Conference player of the year Matt Freeije came off the bench to give the Bucks an early shot in the arm on offense. Freeije connected on his first four shots to give him nine points in the first half. Washington and Mbah a Moute had the hot hand late in the second quarter as the duo combined for 17 points to put the Bucks on top 37-35 at halftime.

Minnesota came out hot to start the second half, Blake Ahearn, Love, and Drew Nietzel conncted on back-to-back buckets. The Bucks ended the period on a positive note as Washington and Matt Lojeski got hot from the field and scored 14 points over a four minute stretch in the game.

The fourth quarter was much of the same as the Bucks extended their lead in the period as Freeije and and Lojeski scored the Bucks final 11 points.

Corey Brewer finished the game with eight points and three rebounds. The Bucks limited the Timberwolves to 44% from the field.

Love left the game in the third quarter with a sore left Achilles midway through the third quarter. While in the game Love scored 10 points and grabbed nine boards.

The Timberwolves was led by Pops Mensah-Bonsu ’s 13-point showing.
