Timberwolves defeat Knicks 111-91 Print E-mail
The Minnesota Timberwolves finished up the 2008 Summer League with a 111-91 win over the New York Knicks Sunday afternoon.

Despite playing without the services of 2008 NBA Lottery draft selection Kevin Love, the Timberwolves never trailed in the contest. The two teams both finished the Summer League with 2-3 records.

The Timberwolves dominated throughout, shooting 62 percent from the floor during the first 20 minutes of play and stretching their lead to as many as 16 in the half.  Most of that offense came from Pops Mensah-Bonsu ’s 13 first-half points.

A mixture of scoring was the key in the first quarter. As five players scoerd six or more points in the period. Corey Brewer, Chris Richard,  Mensah-Bonsu’s, Drew Nietzel each scored six points. Blake Ahearn paced the Timberwolves with seven points in the opening stanza.

The second half was much of the same for the Timberwolves, the Timberwolves' defense kicked in and held the Knicks to only 13 in the third quarter. The Knicks, who had been down as many as 28, rallied in the fourth and come within 12 points, 87-99, with 3:46 to play.

That was as close as the game would get as the Timberwolves put the game on cruise control for the 20 point win.

Five players finished the game in double-figures as  Mensah-Bonsu’s led the Timberwolves with 21 points.

Brewer finished the game with 10 points, seven assist and seven rebounds.

Former Florida Gator Anthony Roberson led all scorers with 23 points.

Minnesota shot 57% from the field for the game and held the Knicks to 47% from the field.
