Corey Brewer has spent most of his off-season working on the basics of basketball. When Brewer hasn't been in the gym or a weightroom he has been sharing the game to kids all over the country.
From the time the season was over Corey was dedicated to getting better for the upcoming season. Hiring a weight trainer and shooting nearly a 1,000 shots a day in a gym is just some of the little things that can help improve someones game.
"I work everday on trying to get better," Brewer said. "I shoot close to a 1,000 shots a day and lift weights."
When Corey has a little time away from the game, he loves teaching others the skills to play. He hosted his first ever basktball camp in his hometown of Portland, Tennessee that attracted 125 kids from second grade to high school. The camp was deemed a success as the the students at the camp was given great instruction, but the kids had time to hangout with Brewer for laughs and autographs.
"I love working with kids," Brewer said. " I remember as a child how much I liked going to camps and I know its very important to them."
After the camp at Portland, Corey has spent most of his time between Minnesota and Las Vegas home on the NBA Summer League working with trainers.
The former Gator had some nice games at the NBA Summer League. In game two of the league he scored a game high 19 points shooting 7 of 10 from the field and in the final game he did a little bit of everything scoring 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Those games could go a long way in helping the confidence in Brewer this season.
When Summer league was finished Brewer flew back to Minnesota to take part in the Timberwolves caravan. On the teams trip across Minnesota Brewer, Ryan Gomes, and assistant coach
J.B. Bickerstaff, and television analyst Jim Peterson presented a free
75-minute youth basketball clinic in Mankato. Corey worked with the 100 kids on the basics of playing good defense. Other trips on the tour incuded Willmar and Brainard.
With just a few short months away from the start of the 2008-2009 season next seaon is here or for some it's been here since the end of last season.
The memories that the little kids have of spending time with Brewer will be something they soon wont forget.
