The Oklahoma City Thunder picked up their first win of the season Sunday night with a 88-85 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Thunder first year player Russell Westbrook hit the go-ahead basket with 2:19 to play to give the Thunder a 86-85 lead. Oklahoma City stopped Minnesota on its next six possessions to hang on for the win. Ryan Gomes missed a three-point shot that would have tied the game. The Timberwolves had plenty of chances to go ahead or tie the game, but couldn't get the job done. Al Jefferson led all scorers with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Corey Brewer finished the game playing 27.00 minutes scoring seven points and grabbing six rebounds. Minnesota had three other players to reach double figures. Craig Smith finished with 13 points, Ryan Gomes added 12 ppints, and Mike Miller chipped in 10 points. Brewer and the Timberwolves defense held Kevin Durant to 18 points. Duran was the number two selection of the 2007 NBA Draft. The Timberwolves dropped to 1-2 and will be at home against the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday night. |
