Minnesota used a 23 point performance from Randy Foye to get past the Detroit Pistons 106-80 Sunday night.
The Piston have lost three of four and have a record of 4-5 since bringing Allen Iverson to the team after a trade with the Denver Nuggets. A great start by the Timberwolves was key in building a big lead. The Timberwolves took control with first-half defense, holding Detroit to just 28 percent shooting while building a 44-34 lead. Ryan Gomes scored 13 points in an impressive first half performance. Minnesota pulled away early in third quarter leading by as much as 15 points, but the shooting of Tayshaun Prince kept the game close as he scored 10 points in the early stages of the second half. Prince led the Pistons with 20 points, but Jason Maxiell was the only other player to reach double figures with 12. Foye contributed more than just scoring, he finished with a career-high 14 assists. Gomes finished with 20 points, Al Jefferson had 19 points for Minnesota and Craig Smith came off the bench to score 16 points. Second year player Corey Brewer came off the bench with seven points while playing 20 minutes. The Timberwolves will play the Phoenix Suns Wednesday night at the Target Center. |
