Second year player Corey Brewer is likely out for the remainder of the 2008-09 season after going down with an injury in the second half of the Timberwolves loss to the Denver Nuggets Saturday night.

Brewer tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee according to a MRI test that was performed on Monday.

The Timberwolves first round selection in the 2007 draft fell to the ground twice in the game, but came back on the court later in the game and went to the ground a second time.

Before the injury Brewer's confidence on the court could be felt by his teammates and fans. Over the last three games Corey averaged eight points per game while shooting 9 of 18 from the field and two of three from behind the arc. Brewer had connected of four of five free throws.

In 15 games this season Brewer averaged 6.2 points per game and three boards per game. 

The shooting percentage also increased from last season. Last season Brewer shot 37.4 from the field and 19.4 percent from behind the arc.

This season Brewer had connected on 41.1 percent of his shots and 41.7 percent from the three point line. 

Brewer scored a season 15 points against the San Antonio Spurs11/05/08.

Corey did not travel with the team to Charlotte.

"This is a tough situation for Corey and we feel for him," Said Timberwolves VP of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale."

"Corey has worked extremely hard on his game. He was starting to really feel comfortable on the floor and was playing well. We'll miss his energy, defensive mindedness and toughness moving forward."
