Second year player and former First round pick Corey Brewer is likely out of the season after a MRI test revealed a torn ACL.
The injury occured in the Timberwolves loss to the Denver Nuggets Saturday night. Brewer had really came on of late as confidence in his all around game could be seen on the court. "I personally feel very bad for the kid because, I know how much time he put in," Minnesota Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin McHale said." I what he sacrificed to become a better player and it was really starting to come around for him." Brewer spent all summer working on his offense and getting stronger in the weight room in Minnesota. Over the last few weeks Corey's offensive stats have improved. Brewer had shot 50 percent from the field over the last three games and 66 percent from behind the arc. "You could see him slowing down some, getting more confident in his shot, just playing better," McHale said. "He always plays hard. That's one thing about Brew, you never have to worry about his effort level. All the stuff he had worked on was starting to come through. He was better at the hole, more confident in making shots." One of the things the Timberwolves will miss is Brewer's presence on defense, Night in and night out he was counted on to cover the best offensive player for the opposing team. "We've got to find another guy to put on LeBron James and other good players we've got to stop and bother," Timberwolves player Rodney Carney said. "We're going to have to find somebody else to do that. Hopefully, somebody else can fill that role." Minnesota Timberwolves Coach Randy Wittman had this to say about Corey after the game in Charlotte. "I talked with Corey this afternoon and he seemed in good spirits. Obviously, it's bad news, but he is going to work hard to get back. I have no doubt about that. The big thing is for him to keep his head up and stay positive. It's going to be a long road back, but we know that Corey has the attitude and determination to come back even better than before the injury. "
